Joint Group Meeting 9th June 2009

Save Our Moss

What do we want from the group / meeting?

* Sharing of information and contacts, for example

Information about significant rare species. What species are important, what they look like and
how to find them

Where to fid SSSI’s in threatened areas, and why they are SSSI’s

How to contact English Nature, and what they are seeking to protect

How to contact The Woodland Trust, and what they are seeking to protect

Environmental protection agencies in local govt and their role, for example Dr Sarah Manchester (LCC)

* Sharing of knowledge of planning procedures and shortcuts used by developers

Previous experience of other groups, for example of Trojan horses used by developers

Adherence (or not) to planning conditions by developers. If we can demonstrate serial misbehaviour by developers in contempt of planning conditions surely this helps our arguments.

Actual performance of developments when compared to developers projections – for example how the development at Cypress Point really performs in terms of flooding and subsidence.

* Prevention of ‘divide and rule’ by local authorities

* Challenge the fundamental assumptions that are driving the ‘need’ for new housing development

* Barker report – has anyone read it?

Have the assumptions been questioned? - for example Blackpool ‘requires’ 7500 new homes yet it has many vacant properties and its population is falling

Co-ordinate local MP’s and organisations (e.g. CPRE) in questioning the regional spatial strategy.

* Publicity

Sharing of newspaper and media contacts
