Gazette Letter
16th March 2009
Angelia has sent the following letter to the Evening Gazette:-
Dear Sir,
If Blackpool Council is so desparate for funding to regenerate the inner areas (as reported on page 5 on March 14), why did they turn down the £100 million privatley funded redevelopment of 6 hotels that would have provided holiday accomodation and 300 luxury apartments, as reported on page 9?
If £350 million is needed, why do the council and local Housing Associations not start by approaching the Homes and Communities Agency for funding to enable them to buy up empty properties and HMOs, and even 'first time buyer' properties. This would:
- generate movement in the housing market
- provide needed social housing very quickly
- provide local employmeny
- assist with the regeneration of the inner areas
- remove the need for unnecessary peripheral development, which only takes very limited funds away from the inner areas.
A win-win situation surely?
