Save Our Moss

Welcome to the website of Save Our Moss, a large group of like minded individuals with one common aim.

To save Marton Moss from the developers

During August 2008 Kensington Developments submitted plans to Blackpool Council to build a large housing development on the moss.

The development is for 640 houses and apartments on 20 hectares of grade 2 agricultural land. The developers (Kensington’s) have been systematically buying up land in this area for quite a few years; maybe they knew something we didn’t. Marton Moss has for many years been a no go zone for builders, being protected from any new building by the Blackpool Local Plan but this is now changing with the introduction of new planning rules by the government. These new regulations are far reaching and cover all of England and Wales.

All this has been brought about by the introduction of Regional Assemblies by the infamous two jags Prescott. These new quangos have decided that the current allocation of building land for new homes is inadequate for future needs but the only place left to build on in many areas are green field sites.

With these forthcoming changes to development control regulations, great swaths of the countryside are likely to be lost forever to a massive expansion of urban sprawl, indeed, it has been estimated by C.P.R.E. (Campaign to Protect Rural England) that an area the size of greater Birmingham will be lost to new housing forever.

We cannot allow this to happen, Blackpool has little enough green space where Residents and Visitors can enjoy the countryside, Save Our Moss is committed to fighting this development and any other development on Marton Moss.
